Alan had a successful career in publishing prior to moving into television in 1980. He joined an international publishing company and set up their production department before setting up his own company in 1984.

In 1990 that company became a division of ABC television until 1993 when it was purchased by a publishing house. That same year Alan set up Cutting Edge and has been actively making television programmes for broadcast, industry and charities since then.
